Arizona State goes 0-2, is eliminated from CWS

Since College World Series tickets became part of a 64-team affair, only one team that started the tournament as the No. 1 seed has gone all the way.
Arizona State was hoping to become the second team to celebrate turning the top seed into a College World Series title, but instead the Sun Devils are the second team to go two-and-'cue as they were knocked out by South Carolina Tuesday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
South Carolina exploded for eight runs in the second inning, which was more than enough for an 11-4 win that gave Arizona State its first two-game losing streak of the season and, more important, ended their hopes for joining the 1999 Miami Hurricanes as the only teams to win as the No. 1 seed since the 64-team format went into use in 1999.
The explosion was highlighted by home runs from Jackie Bradley and Adrian Morales. The Gamecocks had eight hits in the inning and would not let the Sun Devils even entertain thoughts of a comeback.
Arizona State didn't go down quietly, though. They battled back to get within seven runs, but left 10 runners on base and could never mount much of a threat as they ended their season at 52-10, going 0-2 at the College World Series for only the third time in their 22 appearances at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The Gamecocks got to starter Merrill Kelly, whose day ended after Morales' shot hit the foul pole in left field. South Carolina closed the scoring with another home run, a solo shot by Whit Merrifield in the eighth.
South Carolina (49-16) now waits for the conclusion of the Oklahoma-Clemson game to see who they play on Thursday. That game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning with Clemson holding a 6-1 advantage. That game will pick up Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. CDT, with the Florida State vs. TCU game to follow at 6 p.m. CDT.
You can get great College World Series tickets for all the remaining games in the final season at Rosenblatt Stadium now at Ticket Express — where no College World Series game is ever sold out.
