Gamecocks survive, advance at College World Series

After Thursday's dramatic finish, College World Series ticket holders will be assured that they will see a first-time champion in the final year of the event at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.
A two-out single by Brady Thomas in the bottom of the 12th inning capped a dramatic comeback for South Carolina, as the Gamecocks scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to post a 3-2 win over Oklahoma at the College World Series Thursday night.
The Sooners seemed to be in command in the top of the 12th when Tyler Ogle's blast to center field just cleared the fence to give the Sooners a 2-1 edge.
South Carolina was down to its last strike when Jackie Bradley lined a shot to right field, scoring Robert Beary to tie the game. Bradley came home on a single by Brady Thomas to help the Gamecocks get to the bracket final Friday against in-state rival Clemson.
South Carolina lost to Oklahoma 4-3 in the first round of the College World Series, but survived with an upset of top-seeded Arizona State and earned a rematch with the Sooners after Oklahoma lost to Clemson on Wednesday.
Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead early in the game and made that lead stand until the eighth, when the Gamecocks tied the game and took the game into extra innings.
Oklahoma appeared to have the game in hand when Ogle took the second pitch offered by reliever Ethan Carter over the wall in center field to give the Sooners a 2-1 edge. Oklahoma was one pitch away from advancing when Bradley got a timely hit going the opposite way to tie the game, then came home on Thomas' single to keep South Carolina's title hopes alive.
The win sets up a Friday of bracket championship games, as TCU takes on UCLA at 3:30 p.m., while an all-South Carolina matchup between Clemson and South Carolina is set for 8 p.m. at Rosenblatt Stadium. If TCU or South Carolina wins, a second matchup will be held on Saturday. Bracket winners will advance to the best-of-three finals that start on Monday.
