Oklahoma outlasts rain delays, South Carolina

Mother Nature did her best to put the College World Series behind schedule, but Oklahoma and South Carolina managed to get their game in after more than six hours in rain delays in Omaha Sunday.
The Sooners got a solo homer and an RBI single from Caleb Bushyhead while their pitchers worked out of bases-loaded jams in the eighth and ninth innings to hang on for a 4-3 win over South Carolina in the first of two games scheduled at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The second game scheduled Sunday between Arizona State and Clemson was moved to a Monday 10 a.m. start time, thanks to storms that rolled through the Midwest Sunday afternoon.
Bushyhead hit a solo shot in the second to give Oklahoma a 2-1 lead, and he made it 3-2 in the fourth with an RBI single.
After Oklahoma's pitchers got out of a bases-loaded situation in the eighth, Garret Bueschele hit what turned out to be an insurance homer in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-2. That run was important, as the Gamecocks loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and Jackie Bradley induced a walk to bring a run home.
With the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, Ryan Duke got Adrian Morales to chase a first-pitch fastball for a lazy flyout to center. South Carolina was 0-7 with runners in scoring position, and now will face the loser of Monday's rescheduled game between Arizona State and Clemson on Tuesday afternoon.
As a result of the weather, Game 4 of the series between Arizona State and Clemson will start at 10 a.m. Monday at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. Game 5 on the agenda, a losers bracket matchup between Florida and Florida State, will start at 3:30 p.m., while Game 6 on the schedule between TCU and UCLA will start at 8 p.m.
